Don’t wait until the last second of your take off to book the ticket but also avoid booking far, far in advance either. The best time to book your flight tickets is 6-8 weeks before you plan to start your vacation or at least 3 months prior to your tour, if you are planning to go during the peak season.

2. Fly on budget airlines

A long time ago, if you wanted to fly between continents you were mostly stuck with traditional and expensive airlines. But that’s no longer the case now. Because, Budget airlines now exist! Flying on these airlines is a good alternative emptying your pockets on expensive flight tickets. You will get fewer perks but you will definitely save a bundle in price.

3. Identify the cheapest day to fly out

While there are many conspiracy theories around booking a flight on Tuesday to save money, there is a little truth behind them. It is always preferable to you leave on weekdays to get cheaper deals but you can also score some amazing tickets due to the weekend rush. The best strategy is to analyze  the ticket prices for a complete month and identify the days on which the tickets are cheapest for your specific route.

4. Use reliable search engines

Many search engines inflate flight costs as a part of their deals with airlines. Hence, familiarise yourself with sites that offer best offers at low prices. Use websites like Skyscanner or AirFare Watchdog that offer regular updates about affordable tickets. Use multiple search engines to score some amazing deals on your travel package.

5. Take advantage of discounts

Keep an eye out for the many, many discount offers and coupons available for different airlines. Take advantage of these coupons to book cheaper flight tickets. You can also utilize corporate discounts, student discounts, elderly concessions etc. to get better deals.

If you are student (or under 26), take advantage of discount codes out there or simply book through travel agencies like STA travel or Flight Center to find a cheap ticket.
